I’d taken a few lessons with different instructors, but always found that i spent more time talking at the side of the road than actual driving!
From the first lesson with Richard from Edinburgh City Driving School however, I knew this would not be the case!
He got me up to speed very quickly and his easy going, relaxed style of tuition made learning to drive a fun experience.
The result was i passed first time, and i couldn’t recommend him highly enough!

I’d been taking driving lessons off and on for approx. 18 years and never made it as far as sitting my test. Over the years I’ve quit lessons, changed instructors and generally just put off progressing to the test. However, David is the only one I’ve stuck with that has seen me through the driving test. David pushed me to sit the theory test, pushed me to apply for the practical test and pushed me to work for it. Finally yesterday I passed my test. When I had a bad lesson, felt despondent and wanted to quit, David persuaded me to continue and it really was the kick I needed to get me through. David has a very calm and relaxed manner to teaching which worked well for me but at the same time pushes you to move to the next level. If, like me, you’re looking for an instructor who helps you remain calm and pushes you to progress, then I would highly recommend David’s services.

I’m just back in from taking my practical test and wanted to say a huge thanks officially to Mr David Ambrose. Having learnt to drive with Edinburgh City Driving School I’ll now be recommending them to everyone! I had a fantastic and thorough learning experience filled with endless pointers, tips and advice. With progressive and well balanced lessons, I learnt the rules of the road whilst learning all the relative manoeuvres. The instructors WILL make sure you pass, and will give you as much help and support as you need. I passed first time with only 5 minors and now feel confident to drive independently in the future!

I started driving lessons with Edinburgh City Driving School at 17 with lessons from David Ambrose. David is friendly, professional and patient whom I would definitely recommend. Each lesson is very fun and enjoyable which I soon found that I was looking forward to each week. Over my 7 months with David, I quickly progressed and was able to gain confidence as a driver through each lesson. As a result of this, I have passed first time at the age of 17.

I had only had driving lessons in rural locations before so when I moved to Edinburgh I was really quite nervous to start lessons in a city, but after my first lesson I felt at ease, safe and comfortable with David as my instructor. In the beginning, I disliked driving. I felt stressful and nervous whenever I sat at the driver’s seat. But I want to learn how to drive and it is a part of life. Keith was very professional and patient with me and he knows how to bring out the best from his students. He helped build up my driving confidence and taught me good driving habits. I was contacted by David Ambrose from Edinburgh City Driving School when I decided to take driving lessons again. I had been practising driving with David and had some private practice for several months before I booked the test. David is experienced, professional and has a good sense of humour. He was able to pinpoint the errors I made and correct me, making sure I learned from my mistake. I am delighted that I pass the test the first time. I believe a good driving instructor should be able to develop my overall skills and confidence in driving which is exactly what David did, I am grateful for his support.

I was greatly impressed with the instruction I received from Richard, he put me at ease, was very personable and friendly and really knows what he is doing. I had lost faith in my previous independent instructor after having almost 40 hours of lessons without even covering manoeuvres yet. I was delighted to pass my test first time after 3 months of lessons with David. I seemed to progress quite quickly under his guidance and felt he pushed me forward for the test at the right time. I feel I got a well-rounded learning experience and would be confident with dealing in situations that you would not necessarily encounter in a test. Aside from being a good instructor, David was easy to get along with and I would recommend him to anyone looking to take driving lessons.

I took driving lessons when I turned 17, but wasn’t ever truly interested in driving. It has only been recently – some ten years later – that I have felt I would benefit from having a license. Edinburgh City Driving School had many successful stories on their website of people in exactly the same situation, looking to learn to drive in their 20s. I recently completed a block of driving lessons with David, and would like to submit my comments.I am very satisfied with the learning experience I had with David and as a result of his tuition I passed my test on the first attempt.
Having taken a 6 year gap in lessons and coming back to driving, I felt that David got me driving independently very quickly. With Edinburgh City Driving School I passed first time with only two minors! My learning was 100% with Edinburgh City Driving School as I had no other instruction. Keith is a fantastic instructor and I couldn’t have asked for better. He always made me feel relaxed and comfortable in the car even from my first lesson. I found Edinburgh City Driving School online, and was impressed firstly at how promptly they responded to me, and secondly at how flexible my instructor, Keith, was in his ability to fit my lessons around my hours at the University. I enjoyed my lessons very much; Keith was always able to keep me calm and make me laugh, as well as being a great instructor. I felt very comfortable and I could feel myself making progress every lesson. Learning to drive with David was a fantastic experience. Initially I had my reservations as I had never driven a car before (I didn’t even know which pedal was which). Leaning to drive has allowed me the freedom I craved and fingers crossed will open up more career opportunities for me. David was relaxed and patient with me but pushed me enough that I gained confidence and exceptional driving skills, if I do say so myself. I started driving with another driving cmpany where I was struggling to get to grips with the car and I was losing confidence every lesson. I was recommended to ECDS and in particular, Keith. After my first lesson with Keith my confidence was back and rather than dreading each lesson I was now looking forward to each one. I made good and quick progress and as I had already passed my theory it was just about getting ready for the practical test. I was excited about driving but nervous as I had only driven a couple of times when I was 18Yrs. From the first time I got in the car with Keith, he very patient and understanding. After taking lessons with another company I was finding learning to drive miserable and I hated spending time in the car, however, when a friend recommended Edinburgh City Driving School to me my experience changed dramatically. My instructor, Keith was brilliant helping me regain confidence and I quickly progressed as a driver. The friendly atmosphere in the car was relaxing and most importantly enjoyable. I found Edinburgh city driving school on the internet and went with them initially because of the great deal they had for 10 lessons. When I started the first thing that struck me were the lessons were a lot of fun. Even with the horrible weather in the summer Richard made me feel confident and safe even when we were having lessons in the pouring rain. The lessons are both professional and relaxed and it was great to be able to chat and learn at the same time. I feel this approach has really prepared me for live on the road. The car was a pleasure to drive and when it came to my test Richard ‘s teaching meant I felt fully prepared. I found Edinburgh city driving school on the internet and went with them because of the great deal they had for 10 lessons back in August. Richard got back to me very quickly and my first lesson was booked for that week.
I had, had lessons previously however it was 3 years previous, so I was quite nervous. However Richard made me feel comfortable quickly. The lessons were relaxed and Richard was easy to chat too. He pushed me to book my theory as soon as possible and then shortly after gave me the confidence to book my test.
The week leading up to the test, Richard went out of his way to fit in extra lessons around my job and sometimes on his own time, which I really appreciated. I had given myself a timescale of 6 months to pass but all in all it took just under 3 months for me to pass my test first time. Richard built my confidence and gave me the push I needed to finally become a driver.
I’d recommend Richard and Edinburgh City Driving School highly to anyone looking for lessons.

I was advised to start taking driving lessons with Richard at the Edinburgh City Driving School by a friend because they said that he was a fantastic instructor that was able to put you through your steps and build up your confidence at the same time. I found that the lessons with Richard were relaxed and taken at a good pace and therefore enjoyable, this combination meant that my driving skills were improved over a far shorter amount of time than if I had of taken driving lessons with another instructor. The overall outcome was that I not only passed my test with confidence but I found that I could drive on the road on my own with confidence.
I would recommend Richard to everyone interested in learning to drive as he is a fantastic instructor and a fantastic guy.

Before I started taking lessons from Richard I was never really
interested in driving, but I thought that at the age of 23 it was time
I learned to drive. I wanted to pass my test as soon as possible as I
knew I wouldn’t have time for lessons when I got back to uni. Richard
helped me to progress at a good pace, encouraged me to develop skills
that would not only help me pass my test, but make me a safe and
confident driver in the long term, and put up with my terrible
coordination. His relaxed attitude helped to make me feel comfortable
in the car, and stopped lessons being too serious. He’s also always on
time! Two months later, I passed my test. First time. I’d be happy to
recommend these guys to anyone who wants to learn to drive.

Thanks to ECDS, my driving progressed quickly. I found that in every 2 hour lesson, I could feel an improvement in my diving that boosted my confidence greatly. Keith is a master of staying cool in the often stressful driving situations. This, coupled with his clear instruction and of course his notorious banter made each lesson an absolute pleasure. Anybody looking to pass their test and be able to drive to a high standard should definitely look into these guys. I tried and failed my test several times when i was 17 and gave up… 7 years later i decided it was time to give it another go and got in touch with Richard who brought me up to test standard again in no time. Cheaper than a lot of other driving schools and 100% worth the money… The brand new Citreon DS3 Learner car is great to drive and very smooth so makes your lessons an enjoyable experience. Richard was a good teacher who was up for a bit of banter and a laugh but also serious and not afraid to tell you when you made a mistake. Highly recommended and by far the best out of the 3 instructors I encountered before passing my test.

My experience of driving in the past had been rather disappointing after paying a ridiculous amount of money for lessons and getting no where, I thought the day of passing my test would never come. Then a friend recommended Richard to me and I am so glad she did! From my very first lesson he made me feel comfortable and by the end of the day my test was booked, over the next 6 weeks I built up my confidence greatly. On the day of my test I was shaking like a leaf, (we all do we are only human) and Richard kept me calm, he reassured me everything would be fine, and it was, I passed my test, first time. I went to learn with Edinburgh City Driving School, with sole aim of getting through my test as quick as possible.Richard was instantly able to assess my ability and from then on tailored my lessons to focus on gaining the necessary skill levels to pass. I took driving lessons at age 17 but didn’t take to it. At 32 I decided to try again with some apprehension. Fortunately, learning with Keith was a pleasure. Keith tailored each lesson expertly to fit my needs at the time, to work on exactly the right thing, and to ensure that I built my confidence and made good progress every week. He was always spot on with his advice and was very supportive and encouraging. He understood my temperament and abilities much better than I did! Having eventually decided to learn to drive for the first time in my mid 30’s, I would be lying if I didn’t feel apprehensive and nervous. It was quickly apparent to me however, that I shouldn’t have felt that way as Keith immediately made me feel at ease.

Driving, at 17, did not come naturally to myself so when I passed with no minors it was down completely to my instructor Keith. He made me go from constant stalling to a steady driver in no time.
I cant believe how much my driving improved from when I started, with Keith giving me a great value on my lessons and always finding new ways to challenge my driving. Keith didn’t just teach me how to pass my test (using practice tests and routes) but how to be a great all round driver. The Edinburgh City Driving school helped me enjoy driving something I had thought impossible.

Having initially never wanting to drive, I was persuaded to give it another go after failing my test when I was 17. Now 10 years later I booked an initial 10hrs with Richard from Edinburgh City Driving to see if I could be bothered trying again. After meeting him and having a drive about some quiet roads, I really started to enjoy it. His speed and manner match the mood that you want. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable, and the time that he spent teaching me the basics again allowed me to pass my test with only 2 minors (and they were to do with my nerves on the day as oppose to anything he taught me). The examiner even commented on how good the drive was, and that was all thanks to the confidence that you get when you get into the car. Richard is a really nice guy and I can’t recommend him highly enough. I will even use him again for the odd lesson here and there.

I continued my lessons in Edinburgh after starting in London and initially, was a particularly nervous driver. However, since having lessons with Richard, my confidence has slowly grown. His lessons have been incredibly relaxed, I have had detailed instruction throughout and he is great fun too. The lessons are very well priced and he has picked me up from different locations to fit in with my studies to make it as easy for me as possible. I have really enjoyed my driving lessons and they have been a distraction from my studies that I will miss in the future. I will be continuing with the Pass Plus course with Richard and cannot recommend him highly enough!.
